RIP DJ AM

Adam Goldstein Aka DJ AM attends the BPM Magazine's 12th Anniversary at the Avalon on July 16, 2008 in Los Angeles, California.

NEW YORK – DJ AM, the celebrity disc jockey who publicly acknowledged his history of drug addiction and had filmed a reality show in which he offered to help other addicts, was found dead in his apartment. He was 36.

Police found a crack pipe and prescription pills in the Manhattan apartment, said a law enforcement official, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing. Paramedics had to break down the door before they found him, shirtless and wearing sweatpants, in his bed around 5:20 p.m. on Friday, the official said.

A friend had called police to say he was unable to get into the home in the trendy SoHo neighborhood. There was no evidence of foul play, and a medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

The world lost a great dj again. He was really a big example for me and thousands of others. He inspired dj’s and drug addicts to become better and greater than before. I still watch youtube video’s of this guy’s great mixing and scratching skills… unbelievable how good he was!

Rest in peace.

LONDON

Just got back from my trip to london and needed a day to recover. My girl and I left early friday morning to catch the Eurostar. After a ride of 2 hours we arrived at St-Pancras train station, grabed a quick breakfast and jumped on the tube. Minutes later we where in Oxford street, so early that there weren’t any shop open… accept Starbucks! Finally we could start our shopping… hitting Niketown, H&M, Footlocker, the Applestore and a few other stores. Feet already sore and with our stomaches grunting we searched for some food.

At 3pm we could check in in the hotel that was situated in Southwark, a suburb of London. We had a nice room, with a very soft bed! A quick shower and ready to visit Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and strolled further to London Bridge. It was only 8:30 but we where tired! Walked all the way back and got some sleep.

Started day two with a typical English breakfast and searched for the right metro connection. That weekend they where fixing the 3 main lines we had to take but nothing could get us down and we quickly found a solution. Next was Piccadilly. Not much to see there accept some bigscreen commercials. Arriving at Green Park we saw some summerchairs and it was the ideal time to take a little break. Not 2 minutes later a little Arabic guy came and asked for 1,5 ponds/chair… ridiculous! We got up and went to see Buckingham Palace. Thought I would get to see some red soldiers with big hats, but no they weren’t there… unfortunately. Took some pics and planned our next steps. The London Eye didn’t look that far on foot… and without planning we came a cross Big Ben, Westminster Abby and the houses of parlement.

Crossing the bridge and arriving at the London Eye, it was packed with people! We visited the Movieum, a musseum of movies where they had original costumes of Harry Potter, Superman, … props, scripts, drawings,… a Beatles exhibition with photographs and instruments,… and so much more! The London Eye itself was to crowded and not in our budget. We decided to take a little break in the park next to it and headed back to the hotel. On our way we bumped in to the Imax theatre and had no idea how we could get in there. Finally found the entry that was localized under ground. With nothing to do that evening we bought ourselfs a ticket to see the new Harry Potter movie, with the first 12 minutes in 3D.

The third day we didn’t really know what to do, we saw everything we wanted to see, and more. So we decided to hit the recordshops for some vinyl! We left that same day with a bunch of records and sore feet.

ART & COPY trailer

ART & COPY is a powerful new film about advertising and inspiration. Directed by Doug Pray (SURFWISE, SCRATCH, HYPE!), it reveals the work and wisdom of some of the most influential advertising creatives of our time — people who’ve profoundly impacted our culture, yet are virtually unknown outside their industry. Exploding forth from advertising’s “creative revolution” of the 1960s, these artists and writers all brought a surprisingly rebellious spirit to their work in a business more often associated with mediocrity or manipulation: George Lois, Mary Wells, Dan Wieden, Lee Clow, Hal Riney and others featured in ART & COPY were responsible for “Just Do It,” “I Love NY,” “Where’s the Beef?,” “Got Milk,” “Think Different,” and brilliant campaigns for everything from cars to presidents. They managed to grab the attention of millions and truly move them. Visually interwoven with their stories, TV satellites are launched, billboards are erected, and the social and cultural impact of their ads are brought to light in this dynamic exploration of art, commerce, and human emotion.
